Cork to Host Global Startups Summit

There was good news for Cork City this week as it landed itself the privilege to host the Global Startup Summit in November during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Securing the event is a great win for Ireland as it will also mark the first time the summit has ever been held in Europe. Up to 400 international delegates are expected to attend the event in Cork.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny announced the news on Friday, and feels it shows how the international markets are sitting up and taking notice of Ireland’s entrepreneurial support. “Startups are a key part of Ireland’s recovery and we want to help them create 70,000 of the 200,000 jobs we will create by 2020,” said Mr Kenny.

Both Startup Ireland and Cork Innovates played a major role in securing the bid and bringing the event to Ireland. Siobhán Finn, project director of Cork Innovates, will be acting as project director for Startup Gathering 2016 on behalf of the board at Startup Ireland.

The national leaders of entrepreneurship from over 80 countries are expected to attend,  with over 160 countries expected to hold events during the week. Approximately 30,000 events will take place over the course of the week.
